- Abstract
- The particle-vibration coupling gives a simple rule for the sign of the
E2/M1 mixing ratio for transitions between the unique-parity yrast states in
spherical and transitional nuclei and predicts a staggering in magnitude.
The sign is determined by sign (Q(j)/(g/sub j/-g/sub R/)), where Q(j) is the
spectroscopic quadrupole moment of the unique-parity state which acts as the
head of the vibrational band. The rule is compared with the result of
diagonalization and with recent experimental data. (9 References).
